PRIORITIES

Here's What's at Stake

OUR HEALTH AND FREEDOMS

All North Carolinians deserve the right to affordable healthcare, but David has seen how laws passed in Raleigh are making it harder for patients to afford care and for him and his colleagues to save lives. When abortion was banned in North Carolina last year, women lost the freedom to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions and doctors were left unsure when they can act to save a mother’s life. David knows that reproductive healthcare decisions are best kept between women, families, and their doctors—not the government—and will fight to protect access to reproductive care, contraception, and IVF. With costs skyrocketing, our leaders should be doing more to lower costs. David will fight to cut healthcare costs like prescription drug prices and routine services and ensure that families and hardworking people aren’t being exploited by insurance companies.

OUR MONEY AND ECONOMY

Rising costs are hurting hard-working families, and David knows that politicians in Raleigh could be doing more to help people make more money and keep more of it. David believes in growing our economy from the bottom up and the middle out by investing in our people and our community. He will fight to lower taxes on families, crack down on price gouging, invest in public education to attract high-paying jobs, and support local businesses and the film industry. Whether you rent or own your home, whether you’re just starting to put down roots or you’ve been in your home for 20 years, New Hanover County residents know that the cost of housing is out of control. David will fight to lower housing costs, including providing funds for increasing our housing stock, especially workforce housing and starter homes, and reining in sky-rocketing property insurance rates.

OUR SCHOOLS AND CHILDREN

As a father and pediatrician, David has dedicated his life to caring for kids and knows that quality education from pre-k through college and vocational school is essential to ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. But right now, public education is under attack in our state as hundreds of millions of our tax dollars have been given to charter and exclusive private schools while public schools that serve the vast majority of North Carolina’s kids go underfunded. David believes that ensuring a brighter future for our kids and our state starts with investing in public education. That means fully funding our public schools, giving teachers and support staff an inflation-adjusted pay raise, and ensuring that every kid, from the mountains to the sea, and in every neighborhood receives a high-quality public education.

OUR WATER AND ENVIRONMENT

We all cherish our local environment and the natural beauty of New Hanover County, and we all deserve clean air to breathe and safe water to drink. As a pediatrician, David has seen the impact of PFAS chemicals on our health and is running to clean our water and hold corporate polluters like Chemours accountable. David will fight to stop PFAS chemicals at the source, ban PFAS chemicals in products, establish state-level PFAS water quality standards, and make polluters pay for clean-up and new filtration technology.  We know that balancing our county’s growth and protecting our environment doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Unfortunately, statewide wetland protections were rolled back in 2023, opening up millions of acres of previously protected land to developers. David understands that New Hanover County’s environment and economy are tied to each other and will fight to reinstate environmental protections so that as we grow, we also protect the land, water, and people that power our local economy.

OUR SAFETY AND SECURITY

No one should worry whether their kids are safe while they’re at school or play or whether their family will be the next one devastated by the fentanyl crisis. David believes nothing is more important than keeping us safe and will ensure that our local law and enforcement officials have the resources they need to protect and serve our community.
